Interested in becoming part of the Woodford County Extension Homemakers? These are the answers to a few questions you might have.
Can I join an existing club?
Yes. You can join an existing club in your area and begin going to meetings at any time throughout the year. Just contact the Cooperative Extension Office at 873-4601 or lori.rice(at)uky(dot)edu and they will put you in touch with the current club president.
Can I start my own club?
We are always open to new clubs starting in Woodford Co! Perhaps you have a craft club or fitness group that already meets and would like to become part of Homemakers. We think this is great news! Start by calling the Extension Office at 873-4601 or emailing lori.rice(at)uky(dot)edu and they will put you in touch with the Woodford County Homemaker President.
When do clubs meet?
Homemaker clubs meet monthly from September through April or May. Each club meets at a different time throughout the month, but currently all are during the week, Monday through Thursday. Some meet during the day and some at night depending on the schedules of their members. The Extension Office has more information on the exact day and time for each club.
Where to do clubs meet?
Locations vary. Some clubs meet at club member homes and rotate throughout the year. Others meet at the Extension Office and some meet at local restaurants, churches or businesses.
Who is in charge of clubs?
Woodford Co has four officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer). Each help to represent Woodford Co at Area and District events, and organize council meetings and budget concerns. Each club has a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Throughout the year officers and club members are asked to serve on project committees.
The Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, Lori Rice, is an advisor to our county homemakers. Registration, meeting agendas, newsletters and many of our events are organized through the Extension Office. Much of the communication from KEHA and the University of Kentucky about Homemaker news comes from Lori and other members of the Extension staff.
How much does it cost?
Membership fees are currently $8 per year. Some clubs may charge a slightly higher fee and use that extra money to fund service projects or for donations.
Do I have to join a club to be involved?
We are always looking for great people to be involved with homemaker clubs, but if you would simply like to stay up to date on what is going on with the organization you can sign up as a mailbox member. You will pay the $8 dues for the year and will be put on our mailing list to receive a newsletter produced by the Extension Office every 2 months.
